Accessing your library account on the new catalog

We’ve had a number of people asking us this week on how to access their library accounts on the new Tyndale Library catalog.

To access your account you can sign in to you “My Borrower’s Account” on the new catalog.

Go to the Tyndale library homepage: www.tyndale.ca/library
Click on the “Advanced Search” link
Click on the “My Library Account - Sign in” link in the top left-hand corner
Enter your library barcode number in the “Borrower’s barcode” box
Enter your MyTyndale password in the “Password” box

If the above steps do not work for you it could mean that you need to reset your password. To do so, go back to the “My Library Account - Sign in” screen and click the “Set/reset password” link. Follow the instructions.

WorldCat to become Tyndale’s library catalogue in mid-May.

After months of work behind the scenes Tyndale’s Library Services is about to make the final switch to WorldCat for the management of our local library resources. Patrons will be able to search the Tyndale Library resources or expand their search to libraries worldwide. Whatever you choose items available to the Tyndale community will always appear at the top of you list. Ebooks are fully integrated. There are also links to online articles. All items signed out in our old system will be transferred to the new system. When you log in to your borrower’s account in WorldCat for the first time you will use your existing library barcode on your Tyndale ID card. You will then be prompted to create your own password.

Some functions work quite differently than before. The best way to get started is to check it out.
We have also created a research guide to tell you more about it.

Spring/Summer Hours at Horsey Library

The J. William Horsey Library will be open the following hours from April 22, 2013 - July 27, 2013:

Mon - Thurs: 8:00 am - 8:30 pm

Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Saturday: 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, only on the following dates:

Apr 27
May 4, 11, 25
June 1, 8 ,15, 22
July 6, 20

Also, please note that the library will be closed on Tuesday, April 23 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Education Library Hours: Monday, April 8 - Sunday, May 12

The Education Library will be open the following hours from Monday, April 8, 2013 to Sunday, May 12, 2013:

Monday to Thursday: 12:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Tyndale Poetry Club Event

The Tyndale Poetry Club would like to invite you to HEAVENWORD, a community event that focuses on spoken word as a medium for fellowship. We seek to provide a stage for Christian artists where they can develop their gifts in celebration with the community. The event will focus on spoken word and how it is embodied by talented people from different places.

Friday, March 22 at 6:45 pm in the Tyndale Chapel

Admission is $7.00. There will be some open mic spots — come ready to share your talent!

Are you looking for open access resources that you can use in the classroom for free? If so, visit Tyndale’s Open Access Resource Guide:

To access the guide take the following steps:

Go to www.tyndale.ca/library
Click on the Online Resources tab
Click on the Open Access in the Research Guides box
Click on the Open Access tab to access a list of free digital libraries
Click on the Open Culture tab to access a list of free multimedia resource sites
Click on the Open Education tab to access a list of free digital

Open Access resources are essentially resources that are either under the public domain or available through a “Creative Commons” license. The only stipulation to distributing these resources to your students is that you give credit to the other? Interested? Find out more by visiting the research guide today?

Family Day (February 18th) is coming up in a few short weeks. Why not find some classroom and children’s resources on families at the Education Library

1. Go to www.tyndale.ca/library/education

2. Click on the WorldCat tab on the home page

3. Enter the term “famil?” into the search bar

Note: the question mark in “famil?” is called a “Wildcard” search. Now the search engine will look for both “family” and “families”

4. Click Search. In the search results you will see a list of links on the left-hand side of the page

5. Scroll down to the Audience box and click Juvenile to retrieve a list of children’s titles on families

6. Scroll down and click the Show more … link. Click Kit to find Educational Kits on families

Education Library Workshops for February 2013

Prezi and Twitter workshops are back! If you missed the chance to attend a Prezi or a Twitter workshop in January there is still time to attend.

Introduction to Prezi (Wednesdays, February 6, 13, 20, or 27 from 11:50 am – 12:20 pm)

Prezi is a great tool that teachers and instructors can use to bring their presentations to life. In this workshop attendees will learn the basics of putting together and saving a Prezi presentation for any instructional setting.

Introduction to using Twitter for professional development (Thursdays, February 7, 14, 21 or 28 from 31, 11:50 am – 12:20 pm)

Are you new to the world of Twitter? In this workshop attendees will learn the basics of using Twitter to share resources and to connect with others. At the end of this workshop attendees will be building their own professional learning networks through Twitter and sharing professional learning resources.

Zotero Workshops are Back!

Join us for a 30-minute session on Zotero, a free online tool that allows you to save citations and create bibliographies quickly and easily.
