Course Description

This is an introductory program in Disability Theology. Students will examine the realities of living with a disability in contemporary society and their theological and spiritual implications. These modules will also delve into a practical theology regarding living and working with individuals with disabilities and their incorporation into our spiritual communities.

By the end of these Modules, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate a biblical theology of disability that informs their perspective on contemporary society.
  2. Propose a biblical theology of disability that addresses the:
    1. Imago Dei
    2. Personhood
    3. The Trinity
  3. Discuss the implications of their biblical theology for human disability.
  4. Discuss the implications of their theology for:
    1. Living and working with individuals with disabilities
    2. Offering care
    3. Carrying out ministry in the context of human disability.
  5. Identify and critically respond to disability thinkers and their approaches.
  6. Support a theology of disability through biblical exposition.
  7. Gain a new biblical perspective on accommodating human disability in their future endeavours.

Dr. Andrew Barron

Andrew Barron was an adjunct faculty member at The Centre for Spirituality, Disability, and Care at Martin Luther University College, federated with Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada. He has previously taught disability and theology at Tyndale University, Ambrose University, and Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto, where he graduated with his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2016. Barron lives in Toronto. He is married to Laura and is the father of Rafael, Ketzia, and Simona.

The modules in this Certificate will be delivered in person and online. The platform for the live streaming will be Zoom.
