Biography

Mark Cassar is a professional educator with over 34 years of experience as a teacher, principal, consultant, editor, and post-secondary lecturer. His career has been defined by a commitment to equity, inclusion, and faith-based education, integrating research-driven practice with a Christ-centred philosophy of learning and leadership. He holds a Master of Policy and Leadership from the University of Toronto, OISE.

For nearly two decades, Mark served as a principal with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, where he led schools in advancing student achievement, staff development, and community engagement. He also worked extensively as a Professional Learning Facilitator, mentoring teachers and principals in curriculum design, equity, and differentiated instruction. In his role as corporate coach and mentor, he guided executives in values-based, ethical leadership.

Alongside his administrative and teaching career, Mark has made significant contributions to educational publishing and research. He has co-authored professional texts on leadership and inclusivity, written, edited and reviewed for prominent publishers such as Nelson and Pearson, and collaborated with international platforms, including Stanford University’s YouCubed. He also served as Assistant Editor at Word and Deed Publishing, shaping resources that bridge theory and classroom practice.

Mark lectured in postgraduate programs at the University of Toronto’s OISE and Western University, equipping future educators with the skills to create inclusive, reflective, and equity-driven classrooms. His achievements include the Ontario Premier’s Award for Education Excellence and recognition as Principal of the Year.

Grounded in his Catholic faith, Mark views teaching as a Christ-centred vocation—an opportunity to inspire learners, foster community, and prepare educators to serve with excellence, justice, and compassion.
