Biography

Dr. Matt Seaman is based in Australia, on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast. He has undertaken research primarily around the relationships between spiritual, social and ecological matters for Salvationists individually and communally within The Salvation Army. In 2018, Matt was awarded a PhD in practical theology from the University of Queensland for research that explored Salvationist dimensions of holiness within an increasingly degraded creation.

Dr. Seaman is a member of The Salvation Army South Pacific Theological Forum, an executive committee member of the Australasian Centre for Wesleyan Research, a founding member of the Queensland Churches Environmental Network, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Queensland. He is editor of Thought Matters, part of the editorial team of the Journal of Wesleyan Thought, and administers the Salvation Army Farming, Gardening and Ecology Network Facebook (SAFGEN) page. He edited “Darkness and Deliverance: 125 years of the ‘In Darkest England’ scheme” (Salvo Publishing, 2016), and much of his written work can be found at: https://www.acwr.edu.au/matthew-seaman. He also enjoys cycling and is part of the Nambour Citadel Corps where he leads both the senior brass band and the ‘Just Brass’ youth music program.

Dr. Seaman is teaching a course on Aspects of Leadership in the Salvation Army History during this Spring Summer semester.
